Richard Howard, a Community of Christ historian, tells his story about his part in the Hofmann story. Its a great first hand account of that part of CoC’s history.

One of the coolest parts of the story:

CoC traded the LDS church a Book of Commandments for the Joseph Smith III blessing before anyone knew it was a forgery.

Once it came out that it was a forgery the LDS Q12, unprompted, called the CoC prophet and offered the Book of Commandments back to CoC. Paul H. Dunn had a lay over in Kansas City and met up with Richard Howard and gave him the Book of Commandments.

It was such an amazing show of goodwill of the LDS church to give back the Book of Commandments even though they were under no obligation to do so.
